Welcome to Finance Diary. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. Finance Diary is designed to help you log expenses, split bills with others, analyze spending patterns, and use financial calculators (EMI, SIP) to build better money habits.

Important Disclaimer: We do not recommend investments, financial products, or strategies. We are strictly a tracking and calculation tool.

1. Data Storage Options: Local vs Cloud

We respect your privacy and believe you should have total control over where your data lives. When you set up Finance Diary, you can choose between two clear data storage options. You can review or change your storage preference at any time from the Data & Storage Settings page:

Local Storage (Private Tracking)

All your daily expense tracking data is stored directly and exclusively on your device. We cannot see it, and it never touches our servers. This mode is perfect for completely private expense logging.

Cloud Storage (Sync & Splits)

Your data is securely stored on our cloud servers. This unlocks powerful features like cross-device synchronization and Group Bill Splitting involving multiple participants. When a split is created, it natively syncs with your expense diary!

Depending on your choice, we may process:

  • Account Information: Email address or phone number, and optionally your name and profile photo (Cloud only).
  • Expense Data: Transaction amounts, dates, and categories. (Stored locally or on the cloud depending on your choice).
  • Group & Split Data (Cloud Only): Because splitting bills inherently involves multiple participants, this feature exclusively requires Cloud Data Storage to function. Your split networks and transactions are kept securely encrypted.

What We Do NOT Collect:

  • Bank account details, credit card numbers, or real-time banking feeds.
  • Exact GPS location data.
  • Direct access to your personal financial accounts.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data strictly to:

  • Enable core app features, cross-device synchronization, and group bill splitting.
  • Provide you with personal insights, habit tracking, and spending analysis.
  • Improve our application by analyzing aggregated, anonymized usage data to fix bugs and build new features.
  • Manage your account and provide customer support.

3. How We Share Your Data

We will never sell or rent your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes.

  • With Other Users: Group members can see split transaction details (who owes what) exclusively within the groups you share.
  • Service Providers: We share necessary data with secure, trusted third-party providers for encrypted cloud hosting, analytics, and crash reporting (anonymized only).
  • Legal Requirements: We will only disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.

4. Data Security

We implement strict, industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

  • All data is encrypted in transit (using HTTPS/TLS) and at rest.
  • We maintain strict access controls for our backend infrastructure.
  • Your data on splits is securely backed up and recoverable if someone misuses the platform and improperly deletes shared transactions.
  • We perform regular security audits to ensure your data remains safe.

5. Your Data Rights & Account Deletion

You have complete control over your financial data:

  • Access & Correction: You can review and update your account information at any time from your Profile.
  • Delete Account: You can request to permanently delete your account using the "Delete account" button at the bottom of your Profile screen. However, to ensure fairness in shared finances, this process will only be completed once you have cleared all your active splits and have no outstanding payables or receivables. Upon successful deletion, your expense history, splits, and account credentials are removed immediately and cannot be undone.
  • Note: If you delete your account, groups you were a part of will automatically update and rebalance.

6. Third-Party Services

We utilize highly secure third-party services to handle cloud synchronization, app analytics, and crash reporting. All analytics data is strictly anonymized.

If you have questions about our third-party infrastructure, email us and we will gladly review our practices with you.

7. Children's Privacy

Finance Diary is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that we have collected such data, it will be immediately deleted.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes via an in-app alert or directly to your registered email address.

9. Disclaimer & Liability

Finance Diary provides tracking and calculation tools only. Internal calculations (such as EMI and SIP) use standard financial formulas, but we are not liable for any inaccuracies, financial losses, or decisions made using our application.
